Nellie Marie Bowman

Mrs. Nellie Marie Bowman, 74, of Blytheville, passed away Friday, Sept. 9., 2011, at Heritage Square Nursing Center. Mrs. Bowman was born Oct. 6, 1936, in Beverly, Kan., to Fred Vaupel and Nell Armburster Vaupel.

Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles O. Bowman; her son, Brian Bowman; and her sister, Phyllis Vaupel.

She leaves two sons, Craig Bowman (and Dawne) and Mark Bowman (and Sherry), all of Blytheville;

Her daughter-in-law, Lisa Bowman of Lawrenceville Ga.;

Three grandsons, Sean Bowman and Bradley Bowman of Blytheville, and Jason Lemke of Southhaven, Miss.;

A granddaughter, Brooke Bowman McHaffey of Kingston, Ga.;

A great-grandson, Jason Lemke;

A great-granddaughter, Ivy Marie McHaffey; and

A sister, Freida Glover of Dallas.

Mrs. Bowman graduated with her nursing degree from St. Mary's College in Salina, Kan. She taught nursing at Cottonboll in Burdette for over 25 years.

She was an avid gardener. She was a member of The Rose Club, Gosnell Rotan Club, and was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church in Blytheville. She really enjoyed making ceramics and any other kind of crafts. She loved to "get up and go" -- it didn't matter where. She also loved animals of all kinds including pheasants, guinea pigs, chickens, cats, and of course dogs. But, her most valuable treasure was her family, especially her grandbabies!

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today at Carney Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial will be in Carney Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.carneyfuneralhome.com
