Letter to the Editor

Huffman has been asset to community

Sunday, March 13, 2011

To the editor:

I've known Mike Huffman since I first started working the Blytheville market for Steele Enterprise advertising in 1976. Mostly, I've known him in the context of baseball, where for a time we were "Little League Competitors" back in the days before the Blytheville Sportsplex was in existence.

Occasionally, I've done a little actual banking business with Mike, but it's mostly been baseball.

Huffman has been with the Farmers Bank for all that time, and has just recently announced his retirement (see ad in today's paper).

I've never written a letter to the editor before, even though I've been in the newspaper business since I was 3 years old. I've made my occasional opinions known via columns and the odd news story.

But I'm making this exception to wish Mike a happy retirement, and tell him to keep up the good work. He's been a real asset to Blytheville and especially to thousands of kids coming through the baseball ranks for 40 years, and change.
