Elbert Dwane Qualls, 79, of Monette passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at his residence. He was born Aug. 17, 1930, in Evening Shade to the late Colonel and Ovella Qualls. Mr. Qualls retired after serving the St. Louis Police Department for 25 years. He was a member of the Black Oak Church of Christ, 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite Mason, Shriner and past patron of the Eastern Star. He loved to sing and play music on the guitar, fiddle and mandolin.

Survivors include his wife, Anyllue Findley Qualls; a daughter, Kathleen Benigno of St. Louis; a son, Billy D. Qualls (Donna) of Waterloo, Ill.; three brothers, Boyce Qualls Sr. (Virginia) of St. Louis, Chub Qualls (Linda) of Monette and Terry Qualls (Linda) of Morris Chapel, Tenn.; a sister, Fonda Lybarger (Tony) of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren, Ronald Martin, Thomas J. Qualls and James Qualls; a stepdaughter, Sherry Laffoon (Scott) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, LaVerne Qualls; two brothers, Robert D. Qualls and Ted Qualls, and a sister, Claudette Jones.

A celebration of his life was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Tim Bassing and Chub Qualls officiating. A graveside service was 2 p.m. Friday at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo, Ill.

Visitation was held Wednesday night.
