Oneda Carey Myers

Lillian Oneda Carey Myers, 90, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born April 11, 1920, at Manila to the late Eddie and Edna Carey. Oneda attended school at Black Water. She was one of the Black Water Belles and never missed a Black Water Reunion.

She lived in Jonesboro for seven years and was formerly of Sedgwick, where she lived most of her life.

Mrs. Myers was the postmaster at Sedgwick for more than 30 years and a member of the Sedgwick United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Charles Chapter Order of Eastern Star at Hoxie and served as state grand worthy matron twice.

She enjoyed gardening and flowers and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry (Gena) Myers of Jonesboro, Dennis Myers of Springfield and Terry (Sandi) Myers of Searcy; a daughter, Jeannie (Joel) Wagoner of Batesville; a brother, Roy (Carolyn) Neely of Jonesboro; a sister, Ruby Gibson of Pope, Miss.; two half brothers, Franklin (Wanda) Carey of Liberty, Mo., and Vernon (Sue) Carey of Independence, Mo.; four half-sisters, Trilla Mae (George) Wheeler of Atkins, Beulah Jean Lozier of Burton, Mich., Sue Green of Peculiar, Mo., and Patricia (James) Dennis of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester L. Myers; a son C.L. Myers Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Mickey Myers (Mrs. Dennis), a sister Geneva Carey; two brothers, Raymond Carey and Ralph Carey; and two step-brothers, Jessie Barks and Wiley Barks.

A celebration of her life memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Friday in the Sedgwick United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marilyn Neal and Thomas Lamb officiating.

Visitation was Friday from 4 p.m. until time of service at the church.

The family requests lasting memorial be sent to Sedgwick United Methodist Church.

Arrangements were entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
