Mary Jane "Janie" McClain, 89, widow of Fred McClain, of Leachville, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Monette Manor Nursing Home in Monette. Born in Pulaski, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Florence Watson Herd and had been a lifelong Leachville resident. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Leachville First United Methodist Church and was active in the Ruth Bible Study Group as well as the Wesley Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Spencer, three brothers, and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Spencer and wife Barbara, and Freddy McClain and wife Elaine, all of Leachville; a daughter, Karen Johnson and husband John of Memphis, Tenn.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with the Rev. Douglas Criss officiating. Burial was in the Leachville Cemetery.

The family received visitors Saturday from noon until time of service.

The family requests lasting memorials be made to the Leachville First United Methodist Church.

Serving as active pallbearers were James Keith, Brian Davis, Kevin Davis, Paul Kennett, Dusty Edgar and Paul Wildy. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ruth Bible Study Group and the Wesley Sunday School Class.
