Orwell Moore

Orwell Moore, 91, of Caraway died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Agnos to the late June Sylvester and Maude Ellen Moore. He was a retired coach and school teacher and a member of the United Methodist Church in Caraway. Coach Moore was well known for being the owner and coach of the All American Red Heads women's basketball team.

Survivors include a son, Bernie Moore of Caraway; a daughter and husband, Tammy and Johnny Harrison of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandchildren, Cassie Nelson and Colby Harrison; two sisters, Anna Pearl Roberts of Jonesboro and Maxine Corbett of Tampa, Fla., several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Lorene Adams Moore; two brothers, Jack Moore and John Moore, and a sister, Marjorie Pittman.

A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial was in in Caraway Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Hunter Miller, Curtis Miller, Jerry Roberts, Travis Moore and other great-nephews and as honorary pallbearers, Dickie Roberts, Ronnie Roberts, Ben Overman, Sonny Miller, Joe South, Charles Smith, Larry Emison and Wilb Coggins.
