Lela graduated Buffalo Island Central High School in 1998 and received her Master of Education in Elementary Education from Arkansas State University. She had taught for 18 years at Cross County, Senath, Riverside and finally at Buffalo Island Central. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority at Arkansas State University and a longtime member of the Monette United Methodist Church.
