Superintendent says cuts won't be made in classrooms

Richard Atwill, Blytheville Public Schools superintendent, says that while the current low economy has caused the district to do some financial streamlining, the schools "will not cut back on anything that affects what's going on in the classroom." Atwill spoke to a crowd of approximately 75 parents, district employees and students at Thursday evening's School District Town Hall Meeting, which was held at the Boy's and Girl's Club on Elm and McHaney, and was the first of several such events scheduled for this school year.. ...

The long-awaited Greyhound Bus Station could be completed in 90 days. Parks and Recreation Committee chairman Monte Hodges told his board that work was restarted this week on the project, and Blytheville Mayor Barrett Harrison expected the bus station to be finished in 90 days...

Those vandalizing Blytheville city parks beware. Big brother is watching you. Using an $8,000 donation from the Mississippi County EOC, the city of Blytheville is purchasing cameras for Williams and Cypress parks, hoping to curb vandalism, particularly because it plans to install new playground equipment when the 1/4-cent parks and recreation tax money becomes available next December...
