Samuel Stewart Sr., 97, formerly of Blytheville, departed from this life Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at St Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tenn. He was born July 12, 1927, to the late Allen Stewart and the late Virginia Pitts-Stewart in Blytheville. After Virginia’s untimely death, Allen married Vera Hopkins. Together Allen and Vera lovingly raised Samuel and his siblings.
Samuel worked as a maintenance supervisor for both the Blytheville School District and Agrico until his retirement. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Lafalene Stewart, and to their union were born nine children. Mr. Stewart was a dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he followed his passion to become a minister.
Samuel was preceded in death by one son, Fredrick Stewart; one daughter, Doris Pitts; seven brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by three sons, Samuel (Toni) Stewart Jr of Memphis, Tenn., Danny (Wendy) Stewart of Benton, and Trent Stewart of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Barbara Redmond of Little Rock, Gwendolyn Woodson of Blytheville, Linda (Elbert) Haynes of Cordova, Tenn., and Virginia (Michael) VanWinkle of Allen, Texas; three brothers, James (Linda) Stewart, Jerry Stewart and Edward Stewart; two sisters, Iulla Mixon and Deborah (Andrew) Robinson; as well as host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends that he loved dearly.
A memorial service for Samuel Stewart will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at 2:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness located at 3565 Kimball Ave, Memphis, TN, 38111. A Zoom for Mr. Stewart’s service will be available with the following Zoom ID: 2667950168; password: 1243.
