Two were killed and one injured in a two vehicle accident at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. The accident occurred in Lake City on State Highway 18, west of Highway 135.
Lake City Patrol Officer Chris Walker was first on the scene and is the investigating officer.
Kenneth M. Collins, 40, and Matthew J. Rutherford, 33, both of Jonesboro, were killed in the collision. Injured was Stephanie L. Gellatly, 37, of Jonesboro. She was a passenger in the 2011 Jeep Wrangler driven by Collins. Gellatly was airlifted from St. Bernards Medical Center to a Little Rock hospital.
Patrolman Walker said Rutherford was driving a 2013 GMC Eastbound when he crossed the center line and crashed head on with the Jeep which was westbound in the right-hand lane. The collision caused the Jeep to catch fire. Each of the victims had to be extracted by police and firemen.
Rutherford was pronounced dead at the scene and Collins was transported to St. Bernards Hospital where he died soon after.
