Charles R. Smallwood

Charles R. Smallwood, 85, of Blytheville, passed away peacefully in his residence on Oct. 31, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Blytheville on Oct. 23, 1937, to Roscoe Theron Smallwood and Bessie Mae Cobb Smallwood. He graduated from Blytheville High and attended Arkansas State University where he received his associate degree.

While in college, Charles gained an interest in agriculture and for the next 23 years he farmed. Charles later became involved in law enforcement where he served as the deputy sheriff for Mississippi County and served on the Gosnell and Luxora Police Departments. He also served 11 years for the National Guard. Then in 1996, Charles started working for Silent Security. He would remain in this position until August 2019, when he retired after 23 years. On his off days, Charles loved fishing, hunting and playing golf. He was a member of Chickasawba Lodge #134 F&AM, Eastern Star Chapter #279, a York Rite and a Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Thoron Smallwood and Bessie Mae Cobb Smallwood, and his son, Charles Randall Smallwood.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carolyn Stallings Smallwood; son, Michael Smallwood; grandchildren, Amber Leigh Plunk, Alex Smallwood, Samantha Collard, Amanda Williamson and Sara Beth Gordon; six great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Carney Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. Interment was at Carney’s Cemetery located at 1501 Byrum Road, Blytheville, AR 72315. Condolences may be offered at carneyfuneralhome.com.
