Vera Haynes Work

Vera Haynes Work, 86, of Blytheville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, at Gosnell Therapy and Living Center.

Vera was born in Blytheville to James and Zada Stallings Haynes. She was a graduate of Blytheville High School as well as Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Miss. Vera was an educator and taught at Lange and Franklin Elementary Schools in the Blytheville School District for 30 years. She has a passion for teaching and she loved all of her students. Vera was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Vera loved her family and church family and especially enjoyed her nieces and nephews coming to her house for a sleepover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Work; brothers, Hiram, Jim Allen, Jr., John and Dr. Max Haynes; and sisters, Carrie Sue Berry, Patsy Taylor and Zada Payne.

Vera is survived by her children, Kay Work of Nashville, Tenn., and Corey Work of Blytheville; sister, Janet Allene Morehead of Blytheville; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Jim Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Blytheville.
