Betty Mora Henson, 89, passed away peacefully at NorthCare Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 7, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Escabosa, N.M., and was the youngest of 12 children. While visiting her sister in Los Angeles, she met a handsome marine and the love of her life, Harvey L. Henson, and after only eight days, they married and eventually moved to Blytheville, where they had two children, Harvey, Jr. and Julie. Betty worked at Fred's Dollar Store as an assistant manager for over 30 years. She also did some sewing on the side for family and friends. She was a member of Cherry Street Church of God and then later Ruddle Road Church of God. After 48 years of marriage, Harvey, Sr. preceded her in death in 2000. In 2001, she moved to the Kansas City area to take care of her granddaughter, Abigail. When Abigail started preschool, Betty volunteered at the Manor Thrift Store in Liberty, Mo. While living in Kansas City, she was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church and later attended Platte Woods United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed sewing, crafting, cooking, and traveling, but most of all, spending time with her family.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey L. Henson, Sr.; her parents, Emilio and Julianita Mora (nee Martinez); and siblings, Catalina (infant death), Abelicio, Catalina, Marieta, Vera, Lucilla, Ernest, Raymond, Adan (Adam), Alvino, and Odelia. Betty was the last of that generation of Moras. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.

Betty is survived by her son, Harvey Henson, Jr.; daughter Julie Bavuso and husband Tony; and granddaughter, Abigail Bavuso.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life service held in Kansas City in the coming weeks. The family requests memorials be made to Platte Woods United Methodist Church, 7310 NW Prairie View Road, Platte Woods, MO 64151. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.cobbfuneralhome.com.
