Marcus Dale McCustion, 65, of Blytheville, passed away May 15, 2022, with his family by his side in his home from a massive heart attack.

Mark was born to the late Jack and Faye Self McCustion on a cold winter day in Newport. Also preceded in death were his father and mother-in-law, Cecil and Dorothy Bailey of Jonesboro, whom he loved dearly. He graduated from Blytheville High School in 1975 where he was a leader in the ROTC program and later received a business degree from Arkansas Northeastern College. He worked in the general industry for years until he became disabled seven years ago. He was a member of Wellspring Church of Blytheville.

He so enjoyed spending time at the lake with family and friends. He was the captain of the boat and pulled the kids all over the lake, laughing all the time. He loved barbecuing for family and friends and mastered the art of barbecuing at an early age. He learned to barbecue from Cecil and they spent a numerous amount of time barbecuing together. A favorite pastime was playing cards with family and Rush and Lynda Nash. Oh, how he enjoyed winning at cards and rubbed it in at every opportunity. He spent many Saturdays watching the Razorbacks and cheering them to victory. After retiring, he spent three years serving as a volunteer at Blytheville Middle School, where he received Volunteer of the Year two years in a row.

He prayed for a child for years and God gave him the best, his daughter, Bailee. She was literally the apple of his eye. He adored her and spent every minute he could being the best “Daddy” he could be. He loved watching her become the young lady she is today and was a very supportive and proud daddy. He was very instrumental in helping her grow into the person she is today. He loved her dearly. He also worked with youth for 18 years at New Liberty Baptist and Wellspring and was also called Daddy by many other young people.

Mark married the love of his life, Cynthia Bailey McCustion, on a snowy winter day, November 15, in 1980 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. It was a ceremony that lasted 42 years. He took his vows seriously through sickness and health and better or worse. He and his wife created a beautiful life together with an open-door policy always welcoming family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia McCustion, and his daughter, Kathryn “Bailee” McCustion of the home. Also, his brothers-in-law, Gregory Bailey and Roger Carter, known to Bailee as the adorned Uncle Greg and Uncle Roger of Jonesboro. Close family, Ronnie and Anita Self, also known to Bailee as Aunt NeNe and Uncle Ronnie of Blytheville. His two favorite nephews, Ron and Bradley Self, who he spent a lot of time with in their younger years through the youth group. He was very proud of the young men they have become and their accomplishments along with their families, Amanda, Bo, Molly of Cabot, and Alaina, Colton and Cassidy of Heber Springs. Rush and Lynda Nash, brother and sister by choice of Jonesboro, also known to Bailee as Uncle Rush and Aunt Lynda. They often joked about brother and sister from another mother. A special Nanny to Bailee, Dorcas Dalton of Blytheville. Cannot leave out a very special dear friend to Bailee, Jacob Pruett. As well as a host of other relatives located in various places. He also leaves behind his precious fur babies, Sophia, Maddie, Paisley and Dixie.

Cobb Funeral Home is in charge of carrying out Mark's last wishes, which were to be cremated and his ashes brought back to the home. A celebration of life will be held in their home Saturday, June 11, from 3-5 p.m. for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association or your local church for the children and youth ministries.
