Sue Laverne Griffin Dixon, 79, of Dell, passed from this life Saturday, April 30, 2022, at her home. Sue was born in Osceola to Vernon “John” Everett and Sarah Susie Evans Griffin. Sue was a retired secretary of Cotton Boll Vocational Technical School. She was a dedicated employee who possessed an inspirational work ethic. Sue was a faithful member of the Promise Land United Methodist Church where she served the Lord through various departments. She was a current member of the Dell United Methodist Church. Her deep-seated faith was evident in her everyday life, not just on Sunday when she would stand before her class teaching Gods’ word. Sue was a member of the American Red Cross and would visit schools, industries and businesses to teach CPR and first aid classes. Sue was a dedicated homemaker. She and her husband Harry were blessed with 62 years of marriage. Her affection for her family was unmatched as she gave them her all. She hosted the family for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, welcoming everyone with a hug, a homecooked meal, and indescribable love.

Sue had several hobbies including traveling, sewing and crafting. She was a very talented seamstress who made countless items of clothing for her children, including her daughters’ wedding gowns. She was also an avid crafter who gifted homemade Christmas ornaments to church members, co-workers and friends. Sue’s life was shaped by her dedication to Girl Scouts. She joined Girl Scouts with her daughter in 1968 and served for over 50 years. Sue was an accomplished director in the organization who served as the president of the Crowley’s Ridge Girl Scout Council. She won the Juliette Low Award for her leadership of Girl Scout troops. Through this organization, Sue invested in raising women with values of kindness, courage, humility, integrity and selfless service. She embodied these characteristics in a way that inspired others to follow her example.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Noble and Debbie Dixon. She is survived by her husband, Harry Boyd Dixon of the home; children, Venus and Timothy Hamilton of Paragould, Adonis and Tony Hopper of Blytheville, Harry Boyd Dixon Jr. of Dell; grandchildren, Anthony and Ami Hopper, Nathaniel Hopper, Sarah Hamilton, Devon and Ashlyn Dixon, Debbie Hopper Wyss and Max; one sister-in-law, Ella Mae Poag of Osceola; great-grandchildren, Andrew Hopper, Nadalyn Hopper, Adam Hopper, Holt Hopper, Griffin Wyss and Noble Dixon; a host of nieces and nephews; and dear friend Earnestine Ray of Blytheville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 4, at 10 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Mississippi County Memorial Gardens in Osceola. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home.
