Nellie Jewell Pendergrass McCall

Nellie Jewell Pendergrass McCall, 88, of Blytheville, passed from this life on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2022, at the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born in Scottsboro, Ala., to John Leslie and Ruthie Roosevelt Guffey Pendergrass, she was a retired employee of the Randall Company where she worked in the Press Department for many years. Nellie was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church and a dedicated Christian. Nellie loved flowers and working in her yard. She also loved to go fishing and looked forward to the times she would spend with her family. Her family time was most precious to her because she knew that life came from God and she made sure not to waste it. Her life was lived as an example of love for Christ, family and friends. Her life was truly lived with purpose and for those who knew her. She will be truly missed.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Joe McCall; son, Dennis McCall; and siblings, Frelon Pendergrass, Wendell Pendergrass, Lela Pendergrass Ayers, Jean Pendergrass Jackson, O’Dessa Pendergrass James, Doyle Pendergrass and Annie Pendergrass. 

Nellie is survived by her children, Tony and Sheila McCall of Jonesboro, and Mike and Vickie McCall of Rowell; daughter-in-law, Teresa Turpin McCall of Memphis, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony McCall officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, face masks are required to enter the building.
