Federal disaster declared

State Senator Dave Wallace (R-Leachville) confirmed Leachville, Monette and Trumann have been declared federal disaster areas which will benefit residents that suffered damage from the tornadoes on Dec. 10.

“I am not sure of what all will be available to the victims of the tornado but low interest loans should be one thing that can help,” Sen. Wallace said. “I believe assistance may be available for the uninsured or under-insured residents that suffered damage or lost their homes.”

Sen. Wallace said many companies, individuals and organizations have helped in so many ways.

“Denso gave $250,000 to the Red Cross. Valerie Jackson Minton was instrumental in getting that done to help our area,” Sen. Wallace said. “CVS also donated.  Another pharmacy company that former Monette resident Danielle Schroeder is affiliated with donated to both Leachville and Monette. There are so many more that have contributed but those are a few I know of.  Monette Mayor Bob Blankenship and Leachville Mayor Rodney Robertson are doing an excellent job of helping their communities with the clean up and rebuilding. Terra Redman did an outstanding job at organizing the Trumann Storm Center. Jay Paul Woods’ disaster team has been all over the country helping with disasters and did a great job right in his hometown of Trumann.  Also, Katrina Rhodes and other volunteers have been instrumental in organizing the relief center in Leachville.”
