Carol Marie Cooley

Carol Marie Cooley, 81, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021.

Born in St. Louis, Carol was raised in Arkansas, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. William F Cooley who were raised in Blytheville. She graduated from Hendrix College and came to Missouri for her graduate work and stayed. She spent her career lovingly teaching children with disabilities. In addition, she coached basketball, track, and swimming. She was very proficient in tennis and was a fan of many sports. Carol spent many years working for Campfire Girls organization where she was in charge of the swimming program. She was a founding member of the MNEA, a teacher’s organization in Missouri. Carol was a good friend to many, often eating out together, going to Chiefs games, or participating in holiday events.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul and Dessie Cooley and Marvin and Della Moon; step-grandmother, Ethel Cooley; her parents, “Billy” and Marie Cooley; and her brother, David Cooley.

Carol is survived by her niece, Deborah Cooley Self and her sons of Benton; her sister-in-law, Rose; and many cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 15, 11 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery. The family requests memorials to honor Carol’s memory be made to your favorite charity. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.cobbfuneralhome.com.
