A victim and an alleged assailant are in critical but stable condition after both were shot on the Interstate 55 exit ramp on Exit 63 near South Division in Blytheville on Tuesday afternoon, according to Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson.

According to Thompson, the victim was pulled over on the exit ramp when he was assaulted and shot by a transient.

Two citizens drove up to check on the victim and were assaulted by the alleged offender. One of the citizens shot the assailant.

The Good Samaritan is not expected to face charges, according to Thompson.

“It was obvious it was self-defense,” the chief said.

The victim does not live in the area.

The incident was captured by a SkyCop camera.
