On Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 Pearla Fay Daniel (Key), 85, of Houston, Texas, was quietly and peacefully lifted up from our world through the gates of heaven and into the Lord's arms as a mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Little Pearl, as she was known to some back home, was born in Evadale, Ark., Nov. 19, 1935, into a hardworking farming family. She was a happy, beautiful, fiery young girl, actively participating as the captain of the cheerleader squad, a member of the majorettes, basketball team, and theater. She graduated from Dell High School in 1954 and shortly after was named Miss Blytheville Arkansas.

Later in life, Pearla married H. Tom Daniel from Broken Arrow, Okla. They were joined in marriage for 40 years. She worked as a department clerk in the environmental, health, and safety department for Nabisco where she retired in 2000 after 25 years of service.

Pearla loved music, especially Elvis Presley, and spending time with her family. She had a passion for gardening, was an avid bowler, and spent a large portion of her life helping the community. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, assisted in operating Spring Branch National Little League, and managed the neighborhood civic association, generously giving to The Shriners and Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Pearla was preceded in death by her husband, H. Tom Daniel; parents, Grover and Viola Key; and two grandsons, John Conley and Jacob Felts.

She is survived by her children, Ron and Marsha Conley, Kim and Gary Barker, John Corkren, Tammy and Larry Jaquet, and Robert Corkren as well as 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

With soft hands you loved us in the toughest of times, and with your strong arms, you fought off those temptations that chased our souls. Your imperfections are the scars of battles won and times long gone, but the wrinkles around your smile were reminders of those times when happiness was abounding, full and running over. With your heart full of love you lifted us up with simple words of counsel, hugs, and kisses. Mom. We miss you.

Celebration of life will be held at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038 on Nov. 14, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m., followed by graveside services at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079 at 3:00 p.m.
