Shirley White Sowell

Shirley White Sowell, 85, of Blytheville, passed from this life on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born to Chester and Vivian White, she was a longtime resident and a member of the First Baptist Church in Blytheville, where she was a member of the choir. She worked as an optometrist technician at Dr. Scott Johnson’s office. She enjoyed reading, artwork, drawing, oil paintings and playing the piano. Shirley loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Sowell; one brother, Lavanda White; two sisters, Odessa Reeves and Faye Adams; and grandson, Brian Newcomb Sowell.

Shirley is survived by her children, David Sowell (Marlena) of Jonesboro, Michael Sowell (Pat) of Jonesboro, James Sowell of Leachville; grandchildren, Kayla “Chey” Sowell Pender (Justin) of Kennett, Mo., Tyler Sowell of Jonesboro, Christopher “Chris” Sowell of Kennett, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter, Lillian Sowell.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 13, at 11 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron Wilcoxson officiating. Burial will follow at the Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home.
