David Gaylon Sowell

David Gaylon Sowell, 83, of Blytheville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

David was born in Montezuma, Tenn., to David and Hazel Tucker Sowell. He was retired from Nibco and was a member of First Baptist Church. David served his country with honor in the United States Air Force for 20 plus years before retiring. David loved his church and did a lot of volunteer work when he was able. He enjoyed traveling and was also an excellent woodworker. David loved his family and always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bennie Faye Secor; and grandson, Brian Sowell.

David leaves his wife, Shirley White Sowell of the home; three sons, David Sowell and his wife Marlena, Michael Sowell and his wife Pat, and James Sowell; one brother, Glenn Sowell; three grandchildren, Kayla “Chey” Sowell Pender and her husband Justin, Tyler Sowell, and Christopher “Chris” Sowell; and great-granddaughter, Lillian Sowell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 22, at 2:30 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron Wilcoxson officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home. Following the State of Arkansas COVID-19 guidelines, no more than 80 people will be allowed to gather inside of Cobb Funeral Home and practice social distancing, keeping a 6-foot distance between one another. Face masks are required to enter the building and to be worn at all times.
