Dr. Joseph “Joe” Vernon Jones

Dr. Joseph “Joe” Vernon Jones was born Sept. 29, 1949, in Salem, Ill., to Gerald Vernon “Jerry” Jones and Mildred June Jones. He passed away Oct. 27, 2020, in Steele, Mo., at the age of 71. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steele. He graduated high school in Steele with the South Pemiscot Class of 1967. He then graduated St. Louis College of Pharmacy with the Class of 1971. Dr. Jones then attended the St. Louis University School of Medicine, graduating with the Class of 1978. After becoming the chief resident doctor at St. Louis University in 1978, he began a successful medical practice in Blytheville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and June Jones; his brother, Jim Jones; and his wife, Josie Brewer Jones.

He is survived by his daughters, Amanda Jones of Jonesboro and Lauren Jones of Steele, Mo.; his brother, Jon Jones and wife Debbie of Steele, Mo.; his half brother, Garry Jones and wife Marilyn of Venice, Fls.; five nieces and a long list of cousins. He also leaves behind hundreds of his former patients that still consider him the best doctor ever!

A private family service was held Friday, Oct. 30. A public Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
