Gary Don Hughey, 73, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. He was born Jan. 15, 1947, in Portageville, Mo., to Drew and Ann (Patton) Hughey. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Fayetteville. He previously served as a deacon, taught Adult III Sunday School Class, sang in Adult Sanctuary Choir, and served on various committees at church.

Gary was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion, Gideons International and was a Mason. Most of his career was serving as a civil service employee at Eaker Air Force Base. He was assistant to the Mayor of Blytheville and retired as maintenance director of First Baptist Church in Blytheville.

Gary’s pastimes were hunting, fishing, and spending time with family, however watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team was his favorite.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandy Hughey of the home; two children, Laura Delorey and husband Keith of Centerton, and Lance Hughey and wife Lisa of Lowell; three sisters, Joanne Sherman and husband Bill of Frisco, Texas, Rena’ Bradley and husband Harley of Blytheville, and Debi Russell and husband David of Jonesboro; and two granddaughters, Grace Lynn Hughey and Faith Lea Hughey, both of Lowell.

A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at First Baptist Church of Fayetteville at 20 E. Dickson Street, Fayetteville, AR 72701. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. A private family interment will take place at Fayetteville National Cemetery.
