Free COVID testing, flu shots available

Blytheville Mayor James Sanders announced on Monday that the Mississippi County Health Department will be conducting free COVID-19 testing and flu shots until Friday from 8 a.m to 4:30 pm.

Sanders said, “Please call first to let them know you are coming, then it’s all about you driving up, when you drive up people will be waiting for you to assist you. All of this is free so please take advantage of what is going on.”

The number to call for the free COVID-19 testing and flu shots in Blytheville is 870-763-7064.

Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson announced that the Blytheville Police Department is currently seeking applications for employment.

He mentioned that the application process includes polygraph tests and background checks.

“We are accepting applications right now until the 26th. We plan to have an academy class after the first of the year in January of 2021. The application process is lengthy, we perform a few background checks and there are some other things you would have to go through.”

According to the Arkansas Department of Health, as of Tuesday there are 1,596 positive cases of COVID-19 in Mississippi County, 90 active cases, 1,456 recoveries, and 50 deaths.

It was also confirmed at the press conference that there are 33 active COVID-19 locations in the 72315 zip code.
