Robert O. Saunders, Jr.

Robert O. Saunders, Jr., 86, of Trumann departed this life Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, at Arkansas Continued Care Hospital in Jonesboro at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 22 days. He was born Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1933, in McCormick and lived in Jonesboro and was formerly of Trumann and Lepanto area.

He was a retired manger with Barton’s and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Saunders; three brothers, Raymond Saunders, Michael Saunders and Earnest Saunders; and his parents, Robert O., Sr. and Helen Smith Saunders.

He is survived by one son, Hal Saunders of Jonesboro; one daughter, Nita Baker of Marion; two sisters, Jeanine Saunders of Jonesboro and Marolyn Speer of Stuttgart; four grandchildren, Tyler Baker, Matthew Baker, Kelsey Baker and Deidre Godfrey; one great-grandchild, Rowen Godfrey.

Graveside services were Aug. 14 at Jonesboro Memorial Park with Reverend Eric Brown officiating. Burial followed at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. In compliance with COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing was required along with face masks.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill McKisson, Jeff Jones, Rusty Jones, Gary Beard, Jim Jones, Charles Saunders, Eric Saunders, Sean Saunders, Michael Jones, Greg Jones and Mark Beard.
