Lecil James “Jim” Mills

Lecil James “Jim” Mills, 90, of Manila, passed from this life Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, at his home. Born in Jasper, Ala., he was the son of the late Thomas and Susan Northington Mills and had served in the U.S. Army. He had lived in Springfield, Mo., for many years and and retired as a truck driver for the Armour Meat Company before moving to Manila in 1981. Jim was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and rabbit hunting. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Manila. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Julie Tarver; nine brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Doris Decker Mills of the home; one son, Jim Mills (Donna); one daughter, Susan Frakes (Randy) all of Manila; one sister, Willodean Wheeler of Jasper, Ala. He also leaves three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Dr. Matt Pryor and Reverend Richard Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery. 

Serving as active pallbearers will be Hunter Veach, Matt Noble, Nathan Sammons, Luke McLaughlin, Jimmy Wells and Jake Tarver. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Sammons and Marty Finley.
