Stewart Braswell Gurley

Stewart Braswell Gurley, 89, of Blytheville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019 at his home.

Stewart was born in Blytheville to James and Virgie Gurley. He was a retired farmer and attended Mississippi State college. Stewart was a member of Luxora Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a past member of the American Legion. He was a past member of the Luxora Lions Club and enjoyed playing baseball and softball, playing well into his 60’s. Stewart had a passion for farming and loved raising his cows.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, J.L., E.T., Max and Joe Gurley; and two sisters, Inez Haynes and Jeanette Jackson.

Stewart leaves his wife, Joyce Cash Gurley of the home; three children, Mike Gurley of the Promised Land Community, Tony Gurley and his wife Carol of Columbus, Miss., and Cindy George and her husband Eddie of Paragould; daughter-in-law, Jimi Frances Gurley of Isle of Palms, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Brandon and Kim Gurley of Zionsville, Indiana, Leah and Neal Mullins of Columbus, Miss., Anna and Sam Chappell of Columbus, Miss., Sarah and Ryan Masche of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Tyler George of Luxora, Michael and Charlynn George of Jonesboro and Zachary George of Paragould ; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 19, at 2:30 p.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hershel Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at Cobb Funeral Home.
