Newt Lamar Dunigan

Monday, June 10, 2019

Newt Lamar Dunigan, 73, slipped quietly into eternity on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at his home in Hermitage, Tenn. Lamar was a proud husband, father, and grandfather, and faithful servant to Christ, being a proud member of Cornerstone Church in Madison, Tenn.

Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, Newt Dunigan and Myrtle Vastbinder Dunigan, and his sisters, Margie Hawkins and Dorothy Ford.

He is survived by his wife Janet Dunigan; his sons Brian Dunigan (wife Blair) and Joe Dunigan, and his grandchildren Kathryn and Patrick Dunigan.

Lamar was a kind man with a keen intellect, who served his country proudly in the United States Army. He spent his working years in computer security and sales, often cutting-edge work. He was a manager at Sorbus/Bell Atlantic Computer Company for many years. Lamar enjoyed traveling and tradition, a good laugh with friends, telling stories from the “good old days”, fish frys and a big bowl of ice cream on a hot day. He was proud team leader of the Cornerstone Parking Lot Ministry and could be found every Sunday directing traffic in his bright UT orange jersey and floppy eared hat. His love of family was almost exceeded by his love for fishing, a passion he passed down to, and shared with, his own boys. As he got older, Lamar loved to hike. Janet and Lamar spent many happy days hiking with their beloved Shepherd Sarah. Lamar was also an enthusiastic and joyful grandpa to Kathryn and Patrick. There was no greater joy for him than to be in their company. Lamar Dunigan was a family man and a friend to many. He leaves behind so many who loved him dearly, and he will not be forgotten.

Family visitation was held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Sunday, June 9, from 1-2 p.m., followed by open visitation from 2-6 p.m. An additional visitation was held Monday June 10, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment followed in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.

A celebration of life luncheon was served at 2 p.m., following the funeral, in The Hearth Room, located in Cornerstone Church, 726 W. Old Hickory Blvd., Madison Tenn.
