Good BBQ, good times at Butts on Broadway

Saturday, May 18, 2019

To the editor:

Despite the on again, off again, rain, the "Butts on Broadway" bbq competition went on as scheduled. Although the crowd on Saturday was sparse due to the sprinkles, our citizens came out with umbrellas and rain gear and participated in the event that the B on B committee has had for its 3rd year to raise money for the local Food Pantry.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mayor, the City of Blytheville, Fire and Police departments, and local businesses for allowing this event to take place.

Thanks to all of our sponsors and contributors, Hays Supermarket, Southern Bancorp, NEA Town Courier, Thunder Country Radio, Hardy Sales and Service, and Diversified Services.

A big thanks goes out to the E.S.A. sorority for helping with sales and judging organization.

A large thank you goes to Mailboxes & Beyond, Me & My Sister, M & D Outfitters, Blytheville Sheet Metal, Delta Auto, Hubbard & Hoke, Jackie Plunkett, and L.C. Hartsfield for donating the prizes for the voters of the Peoples Choice award. Various drawings were held at the end of the day for these prizes.

Special thanks to Debbie and Charlie Parsons with the Kansas City BBQ Society for providing the judging program and its operation.

Thanks again to the public for purchasing the armbands and voting for Peoples Choice award that was won by newcomers, the Blytheville Fire Dept.

Lastly, I want to thank all the teams that were entered in the contest, the judges and Jackie, L.C., and Vance for all your help in making this event happen.

Hope everyone had a great time and tasted some good bbq. See you next year!!
