Katharina McGrew, 94, of Manila, passed from this life, Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro from injuries received in an auto accident. Born and raised in Heidelberg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Fritz and Lena Reinwald Brecht. She met her late husband, W.H. McGrew, during World War II, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. The couple returned to the United States in 1948, and as a military family lived throughout the country until they retired to Manila in 1970. Katharina was a longtime member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Manila and enjoyed reading her Bible, working in her yard, and watching wrestling.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Joyce McGrew of Kennett, Mo., one grandson, David Ellis McGrew and wife Tahir of Victoria, Texas; one great-grandson, Aiden McGrew and one great-granddaughter, Jordan McGrew.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Brandon Hodges officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.
