Hershel Wayne Ashabranner

Hershel Wayne Ashabranner, 85, of Manila, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Born in Manila, he was the son of the late Homer Leroy and Mary Alice Dean Ashabranner and was a lifelong area resident. Wayne was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was retired from the former Brown Shoe Company of Leachville. He was a longtime member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Manila and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and working in his garden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Ashabranner.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joan Woodward Ashabranner of the home; one son, John Ashabranner (Liz) of Manila; one daughter, Terry Morries (Danny) of Jonesboro; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, in the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Charlie Dixon and Rev. Tony Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Willis Lambert, Kenneth Cole, Ricky Cherry, Lonnie Wayne Ashabranner, Ryan Cole and Greg Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers include Hunter Hawkins, Evan Hawkins, Connor Cole and Charlie Dixon IV.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
