Donald Wayne Matthews

Donald Wayne Matthews, 85, of Manila, passed from this life Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at the Manila Nursing Center in Manila. Born at Manila, he was the son of the late Lon and Oscie Baker Matthews and had attended Manila High School. In 1981, he retired from General Motors in Pontiac, Mich., after which they made their home in Hohenwald, Tenn., until returning to Manila in 1999. He was a member of the United Automobile Workers Union Local Chapter #594 and had attended Browns Spur Baptist Church near Manila. 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Kyle Matthews; two brothers, Kenneth Matthews and Bobby Matthews; three sisters, Jean Medlock, Wilda Langley and Joyce Webb.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Ludie Hines Matthews of the home; three sons,

Jeff Matthews and wife Gina of Hastings, Mich., Ronald Matthews and his wife Becky of Orion, Mich., Steven Matthews and wife Jean of Nashville, Tenn.; one daughter, Debbie Bartley and husband Alan of Clarkston, Mich.; one brother, Dennis Matthews and wife Brenda of Paragould; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements are under the direction of Howard Funeral and Cremation Service of Manila. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
