James C. Cooper

Thursday, February 15, 2018

Mr. James Claude Cooper, 77, of Gosnell, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at his home. He was born on July 30, 1940 in Lyon, Mississippi to Thomas Newton and Helen Ruth Bell Cooper. He married Naomi Jean Davis in August of 1962.

J.C. started each morning with a time of Bible reading, meditation, and prayer. He kept a prayer list with names of people for whom he prayed. He was a member of Bible Missionary Holiness Church. He liked to testify and he was always “preaching” to his family and loved ones about doing what’s right because he wanted everyone to go to Heaven.

After his Bible reading and prayer time, he went to Main Street Café for his morning coffee and to fellowship with the regulars there. Other hobbies include: fishing with his grandson, painting, working on lawn mowers, houses, cars, or anything (he once duct taped his car together after a wreck), gardening, shooting pool, and cooking casseroles for his grandson, Quinton Lyn. He loved to drive, even after he wasn’t supposed to. His only pet was a cat named Tom, that was a present from Kelly. His favorite things to eat were fish and barbecue.

His family was very special to him. He had his own version of names for some of them (Lauren for Laura, etc). His grandbabies were the joy of his life. He was a very selfless, giving person. His son-in-law said that when he owed J.C. money, J.C. often said, “Forget it.”

He was very appreciative for everything his family did for him. He told them, “Thanks for taking care of me” and the last things he said were “Take care of Momma”, and “Don’t cry. Rejoice, I’ll be with the Lord”.

J.C. was preceded in death by his parents, three children, Randy Cooper, Reba Cooper, and James Steven Cooper, and two sisters, Louise Underwood and Frances Oleta Cooper.

Survivors include his wife: Naomi Jean Cooper of Gosnell;

two daughters: Tracy Vernon (Quinton)of Jonesboro; and Kelly Crafton (Danny) of Gosnell;
