Mr. Chester Dewayne Holifield

Mr. Chester Dewayne Holifield, age 80 of Memphis, Tennessee and formerly of Blytheville passed from this life on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Born in Paragould, Arkansas to Chester Ray and Helen Louise Alley Holifield, he was a longtime resident of the Blytheville and Paragould area and lived many places in the service of his country.

Chester was a retired Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army serving as a food service specialist and served his country honorably for 23 years. Chester loved to go shooting at the firing range and watching wrestling. Though it was his occupation, he also loved to cook. Chester was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a dedicated Christian.

Chester was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Major Jimmy Ray Holifield and Joe Holifield and sister, Helen Marie Holifield Watts.

Chester is survived by his wife of 45 years, “Penny” Chong Cha Han Holifield of the home; sons, Chris Holifield and his fiancé Jennifer Dyer of Memphis, Tennessee and Dorsey Holifield of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kylee King (Zach), Jordan Holifield, Lindsey Holifield, Porche Holifield, Alexis Holifield and Taye Holifield; great grandchildren, Emmett King and Ella King; sisters, Glenda Jones (Frank) of Suffolk, Virginia, Dean Hartwick and Lucy Taylor of Blytheville and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10th at 10:30 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Billy Holifield officiating. Full military honors will be conducted at the Dogwood Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with burial to follow in the West Tennessee Veteran Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
