Mr. Willie “Snake” Harvey, Jr.

Willie Harvey, Jr., affectionately known as “Snake”, was born in Blytheville on August 2, 1949. Snake was the son of Willie Harvey, Sr. and Norel Wilson Harvey, to whom he showed a great devotion. The last of his siblings, Willie was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Earl Bynum, George Harvey and Edgar Harvey; a sister, Joyce Harvey; niece, Jacqueline Henderson; and nephew Danny Davis, Sr.

A 1968 graduate of Richard B Harrison High School and 1972 graduate at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff formerly AM&N, Snake was an outstanding basketball player and a true overall athlete. His zest for sports led him to work in the community as a referee for the Mississippi County Football League and many regional basketball games.

Snake was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and a member of West End Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He worked at Agrico and Nibco in Blytheville as a quality control associate for many years. In his later years, Snake worked as a family service advocate for Mississippi County Arkansas E.O.C., all the while driving a United States Postal truck from Blytheville to Memphis faithfully. During his lifetime, Snake also worked for the Blytheville School District working with special needs children and he worked for Eastland Trucking Company. Leveling out all of his hard work, Mr. Harvey was the type to of person who knew how to have a good time. As a result, he and his wife cruised often, voyaging to the Caribbean in 2011, Jamaica in 2012, Hawaii in 2013 and the Bahamas in 2014. They had even planned to cruise along the coast of Mexico later this year.

On June 20, 2017 the final cruise began. Willie Harvey left his point of departure at 1809 Elm Street in Blytheville for the greatest destination of all, Glory.

He leaves to forever cherish his memory his wife, Deborah Ann Harvey of the home; four sons, Willie Harvey III and Andre Harvey both of Blytheville, Curtis (Ebonic) Andrews, Jr. and Jim (Katelyn) McMiller, III both of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a daughter, Sheila (Jammie) Gale of Blytheville; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
