Anne Tyler McGuire

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Mrs. Anne Tyler McGuire of Blytheville died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at her home.

She was born to the late Earl Runyon and Beryl Jones Tyler in Durham, North Carolina.

Upon graduating The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Anne moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia to begin a teaching career. It was there that she met her husband-to-be Stephen E. McGuire. Shortly after marrying, the two moved to Steve’s hometown of Blytheville. Together, there they raised two children, Eric and Tyler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Earl Runyon Tyler, Jr. and James Dawson Tyler.

Anne was a very active member in her beloved First Presbyterian Church. She had a profound desire for others to know her Lord and displayed the love of her Savior in every facet of her life.

A big heart in a tiny package, Anne was full of love and fiercely loyal. She never met a stranger. She always sought the good in others. She accepted others completely for themselves…without fault. Her circle of friends was vast. Along with the innate ability to put people at ease, she also made them feel special and loved. She always put other’s needs before those of her own. She was genuine.

Her perseverance, strength and courage were a lesson to all. Anne leaves a legacy of love, kindness, grace, thoughtfulness, patience, humility, intelligence and wit. She will be greatly missed.

Anne is survived by her husband of 52 years, Steve; children, Eric McGuire (Leigh Kemp) of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Tyler McGuire (Charlie Crabb) of Blytheville; grandchildren, Zach Hixson, Hillary and Colton Crabb; and great-grandchild, Scarlett Grace.

The family wishes to thank her dear friends and caregivers, Erica Davis, Sterling Guess, Cindy Wallace and Cynthia Whitehorn.

Funeral services will be at at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24 at the First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. in the church parlor. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1520 North Tenth Street, Blytheville, Arkansas, or the charity of choice.
