James William Adkerson

James William Adkerson, 74, of Paragould, formerly of Kennett, Mo., passed from this life Friday, March 3, 2017, at the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. Born in Cardwell, Mo., to the late Edwin and Velma Mae Long Adkerson he was raised in Arbyrd and was a 1960 graduate of Arbyrd High School. He later graduated from Arkansas State University in 1964 with a BSE in Physical Education and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He taught in the Kennett Public School District for over 30 years, retiring in 1996. He was also the owner and operator of Adkerson Farm and Trucking Company and was a longtime member of the Kennett First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jackie Marion Gunter Adkerson of the home; one daughter, Jama Adkerson of Paragould; one brother, Dwayne Adkerson of Edwardsville, Ill.; one niece, Teresa Adkerson Dick of Flippin.

Graveside funeral service was 2:30 Wednesday, March 8, at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould with Lonnie Gibson, Jr. officiating. The family received visitors Wednesday from 11:30 until 1:30 at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville.

Pallbearers included Charles Freddie Long, Eugene Hyde, Bob Dick, Billy Rauls, Bud Rauls, and Drew Busby.
