Mid-year weight loss challenge ahead

This column may seem a bit out of place on the calendar, since usually weight loss is more of a first of the year topic, but since I am still struggling to start my New Year's resolution I find now to be perfectly appropriate. This time of year is a nice time to buckle down, start healthier eating habits and get in a routine for regular exercise since school is starting back and it is likely that most families are starting new fall schedules anyway. I want to offer some tips, and possibly an avenue for support for anyone who is trying to shed some extra weight and get healthier. Most people know the kinds of health risks that go along with being obese. Diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, and high blood pressure, just to name a few. Instead of eating to live, a lot of us tend to live to eat, especially here in the south. Most family and social gatherings center around good food, and not necessarily the healthy kind!
