Have you ever spent a good deal of effort or thought on something, thought you had it just right, and then found the real, right answer somewhere else? Part of what you are reading is an example of that very thing. I pondered and wrote in order to express what I think about the progress and accomplishments, of late, in the schools. Then, out of the blue, my writings became less important, and I threw them in the trash, because what a student wrote floored me. We are in the business of educating young people, but I am reminded that math, literacy, history and science aren't the only things we teach. We are in the business of producing civil, well-rounded young adults who have the character and knowledge to lead our city's future.
