It is what you learn that counts, not how much you learn

For years in the educational arena, one would hear the phrase, "The more you learn, the more you earn." While this is true within disciplines (a person with a master degree in liberal arts typically earns more than a person with a bachelor degree in liberal arts), the statement very often is not true across disciplines (a person with a bachelor degree in liberal arts typically does NOT earn more than a person with a one-year certificate in welding or paramedic). Currently, America faces a skills gap in high-wage technical professions, as there are many more job opportunities than there are skilled people to fill them. Meanwhile, millions of Americans with bachelor degrees in disciplines that possess little market value are either unemployed or employed in jobs that require little or no education at all and are characterized by low wages.
