Sidney Joseph Harrell

Sidney Joseph Harrell, age 91, of Monette, passed from this life February 16, 2016 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born at Monette, he was the son of the late Roy David and Minnie Pitts Harrell and was raised in the Childress Community. Joe was a 1942 graduate of Childress High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was the former owner/operator of Weaver Motel in Hardy, Ark. and enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collecting coins. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Monette and was a past member of the Cochrum Church of Christ and the Ward St. Church of Christ in Hardy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Corine Legue Harrell in 2000, two brothers, Jack Harrell and Roy Glenn Harrell, two sisters, Martha Jane Hout and Ione Taylor Brown.

Survivors include:

Two daughters, Carolyn Clarke of Virginia Beach, Va. and Peggy Tripp and her husband Terry of Orlando;

A brother, David Harrell and his wife Verna Lou of Monette;

Four granddaughters, Julie Tripp, Crystal Wells, Amanda Clarke, Tiffany Tripp-Moench and her husband Lonnie;

Five great-grandsons, Khalil Mapp, Austin Wells, Aszik Tripp-Moench and Jonah Poling.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Josh Tarnell and Marvin Rickett officiating. Burial will follow in the Macey Cemetery near Monette. The family will receive visitors Saturday from noon until service time. Serving as active pallbearers will be Keven Varner, Griffin Varner, Dusty Joe Harrell, Logan Dewitt, Aaron Uthoff and Tommy Carroll.
