Brenda Joan Metheny

Brenda Joan Metheny, 72, of Leachville, widow of Mr. Ben Metheny, passed from this life Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Gideon, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Omar and Pauline Harris Atchley and was a 1961 graduate of Gideon High School. She attended the former Arkansas State College in Jonesboro where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in education. She began her career teaching first grade in 1966 in Risco, Mo. She then taught in the Leachville School District beginning in 1968 and retired from Buffalo Island Central in 1997 after 29 years of service in the district. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Leachville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Royce Atchley.

Survivors include a very special friend, Mrs. Chris Marshall of Lilbourn, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Larry Metheny of Kennett; one sister-in-law, Sonya Hosman of Paragould; two nephews, Rickey Atchley and Raymond Atchley; one niece, Nancy Hall.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Leachville.
