Junior Brown "J.B." Smithey, 82, passed away on Monday, Nov. 9 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1932 in Shelford, Arkansas to Dave and Alberta Davis Smithey. He served his country in the United States Army.

J.B. enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends. There was always a house full during the holidays. He was famous for his fresh ham and chicken-n-dumplings. He spent many hours fishing with his grandchildren. Afterwards, they would have a fish fry and tell lots of stories. Mr. Smithey loved the outdoors and grew a large garden for many years supplying the neighbors and family with peas, tomatoes, okra, corn and green onions.

He was an entrepreneur and had owned several businesses in the past, including grocery stores.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Tammy Smithey Heard Crane.

He is survived by four children.

Two sons, Gary Smithey and Anna of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Danny Joe Smithey and Stefanie of Osceola;

Two daughters, Dottie Shaffer of Shalimar, Florida; and Connie Simpson and Mike of Fort Walton Beach, Florida;

Two brothers, Roy Smithey and Lonnie Smithey;

One sister, Polly Smithey;

Twelve grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 in Carney Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tommy Carney officiating. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Bassett Cemetery.
