Mayor Sanders proposes sales tax

Blytheville Mayor James W. Sanders, speaking before the Blytheville Finance and Purchasing Committee Thursday afternoon, announced that he would be proposing both a one cent sales and usage tax and a 13 percent increase city wide over a two year period to the city's payroll. Sanders spoke to the committee about needs that the city currently has, including the need to improve the quality of life for its citizens, adjusting city pay due to passage of Amendment 5, increasing the number of BPD police officers, addressing problems with recruitment and retention of city employees, as well as beautifying the city.
