Doyle Victor Gilbert
Doyle Victor Gilbert, 74, of Manila, died Friday April 24, 2015, at his home. Born in Manila, he was the son of the late James M. and Lydia Starkey Gilbert, and had been a lifelong area resident. Following high school, Doyle served in the U.S. Army and later worked as an auto mechanic for several area companies, including, Tucker's Station and Garage, Ray's Garage, and Towell and Son's Auto Sales. He was a longtime member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Manila.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene Gilbert and Bill Gilbert, his first wife, Wilma Barlow Gilbert, and one niece, Judy Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Davis Gilbert of Manila; one stepson, Joe Eidson and wife Jody of Mt. Ida; one stepdaughter, Laquietta Stewart of Marion; one sister-in-law, Martha Gilbert of Louisiana; He also leaves four stepgrandchildren; one niece, Sandy; two nephews, Michael and Larry. Doyle also leaves a close personal friend, John Parsley of Manila.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday April 27, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. J. Wayne Moore officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Manila Cemetery.
The family received visitors from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
