Dorothy Harlan Brewer Penter

Dorothy Harlan Brewer Penter, 84, of Lake City, died Friday, March 13, 2015, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in the Hackberry community, near Caraway, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Davis and Meda Ragsdale Harlan and was a 1949 graduate of Caraway Central High School. A lifelong area resident, she was the floor manager for various manufacturing companies and retired from Spirit Manufacturing in Jonesboro in 2000. She was of the Church of Christ belief, and though Dot experienced many trials and heart aches in her life, she always believed things would work out fine. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and was generous to a fault. Dot loved music and dancing, and being outdoors. She was also an avid reader.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Douglas Harlan and Lloyd Dale Harlan, Sr.; and one sister, Helen Jean Cooper.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Weldon Penter of Lake City;

Five daughters, Donna Jackson and her husband Loy of Manila, Debra Reed and her husband Randal of Horn Lake, Mississippi, Diann Brewer of Lake City, Denise White and her husband Marvin of Trumann and Deloris Carner and her husband Ron of Jonesboro;

One brother, Dwight Harlan and his wife Linda of Little Rock;

Fourteen grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and

Many nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila.

The family prefers any memorials to the Children's Home in Paragould or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
