LaVelle Jackson Mann, 76, of Blytheville, passed from this life Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, after a long illness, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

She was born in Etowah to Jim Earl and Gennetta Geraldine (Cockrum) Jackson.

Mrs. Mann was valedictorian of the class of 1957 at Missco High School. Her love for knowledge continued after high school, and she attended Arkansas State College and graduated in the class of 1961 and in the summer attended college classes in California. She was a third grade and special education teacher at Santa Lucia Elementary in King City, California, for 36 years, a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Retired Teachers Association in California. LaVelle enjoyed many things in her life, first and foremost her Lord, her family and friends, her students she taught throughout her career and traveling the world from mountains to the oceans. She loved the outdoors, watching the butterflies and hummingbirds and receiving yard of the month recognition.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Charles Mann; and her son, David Wilson Mann.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her brother, Earl "Buddy" Jackson and his wife, Glenda of Manila;

Her sister, Patricia "Pat" Jackson Ellis and her husband, Larry, of Gosnell;

Her nephews, Greg Ellis and Kevin Ellis;

Her nieces, Melita Ellington, Gina Green, Rhonda Metheny, Dana Simpkins, Kayla Pinkard and Shirley Devries; and

A special friend and sister-in-law, Lucille Ford of Salinas, California.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cobb Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Garden Point Cemetery at Etowah.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
