Shirley Jean Sammons

Shirley Jean Sammons, 71, of Manila, passed from this life Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born April 23, 1943, in Keiser to the late Otis and Mildred Crawford Bowman, she had lived most of her life in Manila. She was a longtime member of the Bethany Baptist Church and was a retired clerk for American Greetings in Osceola.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary Bowman, Charles Bowman and Don Bowman; one sister, Peggy Brooks; and two daughters; Debra Sammons and Teresa Jones.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Johnny Sammons of Manila; three sons, Dennis Sammons and his wife, Veronica, Bruce Sammons and Tim Sammons, all of Manila; three brothers, Bill Bowman of Searcy, Wayne Bowman of Brookhaven, Miss., and Steve Bowman of Leachville. She also leaves six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Tony Cherry and Rev. Duane Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.
