Democrats fail to define themselves

Friday, December 19, 2014

To the editor:

The Democrats took a midterm beating. I watched the Democrats campaign through a human relation perspective, and in my opinion, they didn't do a very good job. They never talked about their accomplishments, and there are many they could have campaigned on, but to do so, they would have to say the name Obama. I have never seen Democrats like I have in this midterm election.

The Democrats were running from the president like he was kryptonite. The Democrats never defined who they were, so the Republicans did it for them.

I've been in politics for 47 years, the days of Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller and Congressman Bill Alexander. So, I think, I know what they're thinking. The Republicans had a strong dislike for the president, so, if the Democrats just utter Obama's name, they believe the Republicans would not vote for them. This is contrary to the Democratic way.

In my opinion, the Republicans guided the Democrats the way they wanted them to go. In essence, they gave the Democrats a political beating.

The Republican Congress is back at it again. Impeaching President Obama and repealing Obamacare insurance. When the Republicans can't have their way with the president, they throw a tantrum. It's like this kid in the grocery store, who couldn't have his way with his mother, so he fell out in the floor, screaming and kicking. The mom, looked at him and walked away. The kid jumped up, and ran to catch up to his mother.

When the Republicans talk all this crazy talk, Obama just walks away.

The Republicans threw a tantrum, when they tried to repeal Obamacare, some 50 times. They threw a tantrum when they shut down the government. For some deep-seated reason, the Republicans just don't want the president to be the leader of this country.

Every time these Republicans throw a tantrum, Obama just walks away. The Republican Congress, said President Obama, is lawless, he's just out of control. The Republican Congress saying that they were going to impeach the president. I'll tell you who needs impeaching -- the Republicans who voted to shut down the government. The president has never voted to shut down the government. Political Times estimated the government shutdown cost this country $24 billion. This $24 billion came out of the U.S. Economy. Don't impeach President Obama, impeach yourself for being lawless, repealing Obamacare Insurance that is helping over 10 million people who did not have insurance.

Political Times gives a breakdown of some of the economic cost of the Government shutdown: 1) About $3.1 billion in lost government services, according to the research firm IHS; 2) $152 million per day in lost travel spending, according to the U.S. Travel Association; 3) $76 million per day lost because of National Parks being shut down, according to the National Park Service; 4) $217 million per day in lost federal and contractor wages in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area alone.

Small businesses also suffered from the shutdown. Now, you tell me who needs to be impeached, the president of the Republicans who voted to shut down the govern- ment? Cost our economy $24 billion, yes, $24 billion.

The Democrats did not campaign on any of this. Why? People who have tunnel vision, speak in these terms. Impeach Obama, repeal Obamacare insurance and shutdown the government and succeed from the union. The way the U.S. is today, there is no state in the union able to sustain itself without the federal government. There is no country in the world today can isolate themselves. Stop thinking in the past. If you don't want to know the truth, you will never know the truth.

The Democrats would not campaign on the reason why the Republican Congress want to impeach the president.

Well, the Republicans don't like his success reported.

Right after President Obama was in office, crisis hit America, worse than the Great Depression. The bottom had fallen out of our economy. The president put a stimulus package (the recovery reinvestment) to help the states out. Some of the Republican states refused to take the money at first, but later, they took it.

The banks had no money. The stock market was down at its lowest. The auto industry was going to close its doors, and put millions out of work. Some Republicans were saying let the auto fall, and the states don't need any stimulus money, the economy will fix itself, this is ludicrous.

The president put a $787 billion stimulus package, responding to the Great Recession was the worse global recession since World War II. Then the mortgage crisis, and financial crisis worse than the Great Depression. America needed a lifeline, and President Obama gave us a life line.

The Washington Post reported in November 2011 President Obama was the longest served president without a scandal, as measured by the appearance of the word scandal.

Under President Obama: Do you know what the equality law is? Do you know what the Food Safety Law is? Do you know what the Fair Sentencing Act? Do you know what is renewable technology? Do you know what the race to the top is? Do you know what fuel efficiency for cars is? Do you know what increasing support for our veterans is? Do you know what credit card reform is? Do you know what is stimulus money? Do you know what the Consumer Protection Act is?

Do you know the unemployment is at 5.6 percent? Do you know your tax is lower, if you are making less than $250,000. Do you know that Osama Bin Laden is dead? Do you know the student loan interest is lowered? Do you know the stock market is at its highest in decades?

Do you know that the minimum wage on Federal workers has risen? Do you really know what Obamacare is?

The Republican Congress did all they could to make President Obama feel inferior, but "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent." (Eleanor Roosevelt)
